About the role
- Own end-to-end payroll oversight for assigned APAC countries, ensuring accurate and timely processing by outsourced payroll providers
- Act as the country payroll subject matter expert, understanding local statutory, tax, and compliance requirements
- Execute detailed payroll reconciliations, validating current results against prior periods and source data
- Manage payroll tax reporting, filings, and statutory payments in accordance with local regulations
- Maintain and manage payroll calendars, ensuring adherence across vendors and internal stakeholders
- Ensure accurate reporting and taxation of equity income, cash, and non-cash fringe benefits
- Review, investigate, and resolve employee pay-related inquiries with clear follow-through
- Support internal and external audits through strong controls, documentation, and data accuracy
- Identify payroll errors, inefficiencies, or risks and take ownership of driving them to resolution
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process standardization, documentation, and control enhancement
- Partner with HR Technology and Payroll vendors to support process optimization, automation, and system enhancements
- Explore and apply emerging capabilities, including AI-enabled payroll insights, data validation, and exception management, where appropriate
- Build repeatable, scalable payroll processes that support future country or volume expansion
- Perform additional duties as needed as the SpinCo and Shared Services model mature
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field
- 5+ years of payroll experience in a multinational or shared services environment
- Proven individual contributor who operates independently and owns work end-to-end
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and building structure where it does not yet exist
- Strong accountability mindset—issues are followed through, not handed off
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and willing to do the work, not just oversee it
- Continuous improvement mindset with interest in improving processes and controls
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of payroll tax compliance and statutory requirements
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis
- Comfortable learning and leveraging payroll technology, systems, and data tools
- Clear, practical communicator able to work cross-functionally in a Shared Services model
- Willing to challenge existing ways of working and propose better solutions.
