About the role

Lead a team of data engineers and analytics engineers working on a modern GCP-based analytical Data & AI Platform
Build a healthy, high-performing team and support career development through coaching, feedback, and mentoring
Drive system and platform design decisions and contribute to Data and AI technical direction
Collaborate with Data Science, AI, Data Analytics teams and Product Development squads across the business
Ensure long-term health, maintainability, testing, observability, performance, and resilience of owned systems in production
Partner with Product Managers to align priorities, capacity, and scope and create clear goals and realistic plans
Monitor delivery flow, remove blockers, manage risks and improve team processes, quality, and velocity
Lead hiring, onboarding, and growing diverse engineering talent; shape team structure and capabilities
Represent the team in cross-functional planning and translate between technical and business contexts
Report to the Head of Data Engineering and act as an engineering advocate and strategic partner to Product Managers

Technical background as a Data Engineer, ideally with experience working with a modern data platform
Experience working with a cloud provider (GCP desirable)
Experience in designing modern data systems
Prior experience managing data and/or analytics engineers
Strong track record of supporting delivery and improving team ways of working
Confidence in navigating planning, estimation, scope, and stakeholder alignment
Collaborative mindset and ability to build trust across a wide range of people and roles
Calm, thoughtful, and pragmatic approach when stakes are high or ambiguity is present
Genuine interest in growing others, including coaching, feedback, and performance development
Willingness/ability to attend the London office twice a week (Wednesday & Thursday)
