💰 $70,000 - $80,000 per year
About the role
- Monitor significant developments in media law
- Assist staff attorneys responding to legal defense requests from reporters
- Prepare legal memoranda, litigation materials, and friend-of-the-court (amicus) briefs
- Handle special projects and write content for RCFP website and other publications
- Participate in state and federal trial and appellate litigation, including filing open records requests, motion practice, discovery, brief writing, and hearing/oral argument preparation
- Contribute to amicus and policy work and assist in responding to journalists' legal inquiries
Requirements
- J.D. from accredited law school
- Must be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction or awaiting bar exam results/admission at start of employment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good judgment and the highest level of professional integrity
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States (RCFP does not sponsor work visas)
- Post-law school judicial clerkship, fellowship, and/or litigation experience strongly preferred for Media Litigation Fellowship
