About the role
- The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across a geographically dispersed fleet of small hydropower facilities.
- Ensure compliance with hydropower-related construction and operating permits (e.g., erosion control, spill prevention, NPDES)
- Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and audits
- Serve as primary liaison with environmental regulators and agencies
- Lead spill prevention, response planning, and environmental incident investigations
- Establish and enforce company-wide health and safety policies, procedures, and standards
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safety inspections across all sites
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Develop and manage emergency response plans
- Oversee contractor safety programs and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular EHS audits and site assessments
- Track and analyze EHS performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators
- Prepare internal and external EHS reports for leadership and regulatory agencies
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance tracking systems
- Advise leadership on EHS risks, regulatory changes, and best practices
- Support new site acquisitions, commissioning, and integration from an EHS perspective
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or a related field, military, or equivalent experience, and 7+ years of EHS experience in utilities, renewable energy, hydropower, construction, or industrial operations
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state regulations
- Experience managing EHS programs across multiple remote or field-based locations
- Proven ability to work independently and influence without direct authority
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote hydro sites; up to 50% travel may be required
