About the role

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Office of the Auditor General.
  • Conduct value‑for‑money audits, assessing the quality of stewardship over public funds.
  • Review, approve, and finalize complex audit reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and impact.
  • Act as a key liaison between the Office of the Auditor General and senior leaders across the organization.
  • Mentor and develop senior audit professionals, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, continuous learning, and ethical conduct.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related discipline is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Additional professional certifications are considered assets, including:
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • Minimum 10–12 years of progressive experience in public‑sector, performance, or compliance auditing.
  • At least 5 years of senior leadership or executive experience, overseeing complex audit portfolios and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of value‑for‑money and performance auditing within a public‑sector environment.
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial, operational, and risk data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct, professional judgment, and independence of the audit function.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex audit findings to diverse, non‑technical audiences, including Council and senior leaders.
  • Ability to anticipate emerging risks, adapt audit methodologies, and support continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous learning, modeling inclusive leadership behaviors, and proactively recognizing and managing bias in decision‑making and audit practices.
