About the role
- Develop, implement and manage a robust governance framework that aligns with RBC’s governance structure and investment management oversight expectations
- Work with the Regional Managers, Governance (RMGs) to serve as the primary governance subject-matter expert for Investment Counsel activities, advising senior business leaders, portfolio management teams and support functions on governance, control and oversight matters
- Provide leadership and guidance to all RMGs ensuring that there is consistency in terms or process/procedures across all regions while pursuing changes that would bring efficiencies and other improvements to Investment Counsellor teams, RMGs and Head Office (e.g., IPS, AOIF, OBAs, NRD, EUC, KYC, etc.)
- Review and oversee RMG roles, responsibilities and day-to-day activities with a view towards further increasing the value RMGs provide to the business
- Lead the hiring, onboarding, training and coaching of all RMG resources while ensuring the team is staffed across all regions and Head Office
- Represent RMGs on the Investment Committee, forums and working groups to monitor governance compliance, escalating issues, tracking remediation efforts and driving continuous improvement in governance practices
- Actively contribute to national projects to improve Investment Counsel governance, controls, operational efficiency, client experience and documentation standards
Requirements
- CFA Charter holder
- University Degree (preferable in Business and/or Economics)
- Minimum 10-years of experience in investment management, wealth management, advisory/portfolio management governance or risk and controls in a financial services environment
- Proven experience and knowledge of investment counselling/portfolio management processes, suitability, portfolio construction, IPS and risk oversight
- Demonstrated experience building or managing governance frameworks, standards, policies and controls in a large and complex financial institution
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, ability to work with senior executives, investment counsellors, business heads, risk, compliance and legal teams
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to translate governance/risk concepts into business terms
- Strategic mindset with an ability to align governance frameworks to business strategy and risk appetite
- Leadership and change management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Superior time management and organizational skills
- Experience with Canadian Wealth Management (CWM) operating systems would be an asset
