About the role
- Serve as strategic partner to the CTO and translate technical vision into a concrete, executable roadmap
- Lead and manage the engineering team, owning their well-being, professional growth, and performance
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and compensation cycles in partnership with HR
- Drive the full hiring process and create an outstanding onboarding experience
- Architect and scale engineering culture; codify values and implement remote-first rituals
- Execute quarterly plans with clear deliverables and objectives to increase predictability and velocity
- Build and continuously improve the engineering "machine": CI/CD, testing frameworks, observability, and incident response
- Lead protocol-level R&D and enable CTO to focus on long-term strategy and external evangelism
Requirements
- Primary people leader for the engineering team; conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and compensation cycles
- Drive end-to-end hiring and build an elite engineering team
- Deep, systems-level understanding of high-performance distributed systems and concurrency
- Demonstrable technical credibility with core protocol engineers
- Experience designing and scaling CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, observability, and incident response
- Experience implementing SLOs/SLIs and adapting agile processes to team needs
- Coaching and mentorship experience; evidence of mentoring engineers to promotion and creating career ladders/skills matrices
- Ability to translate CTO/founder vision into a concrete multi-quarter roadmap and manage stakeholder expectations
- Strong emotional intelligence and servant-leader mindset
