About the role

  • Work with reporters in the bureaus, developing ideas, overseeing their journalism, and helping them create stories for online, radio and video platforms.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate content for digital and broadcast newscasts.
  • Develop the program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing.
  • Direct on-air talent and technical resources across all platforms.
  • Select, re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others.
  • Identify training needs.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated coaching ability.
  • Patient and supportive with a proven track record helping journalists learn and grow.
  • Demonstrated editorial judgement in breaking news and enterprise journalism.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Proven understanding of the stories of underrepresented communities and how to tell them.
  • Ability to generate original story ideas and treatments.
  • Ability to multitask and juggle the demands of a newsroom.
  • High energy and enthusiastic journalist who can motivate a team towards journalistic excellence.
  • Self-motivated critical thinker with ability to innovate.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain close cooperation with your program unit.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, highly creative and resourceful.
  • Advanced knowledge of web, mobile and social media tools and industry trends.
