About the role
- Provide technical leadership, support, and mentoring to Mechanical Design Engineers.
- Ensure department outputs (3D models, technical drawings, Bill of Materials etc.) meet project specifications, company standards, and applicable regulations.
- Promote value engineering, standardisation, risk reduction, and a right first-time approach.
- Support Project and Bid teams with information and guidance (configurations, engineering time, and concept designs)
- Identify variations to contractual scope and escalate to the Project team.
- Attend project model / design reviews.
- Undertake site visits and surveys to support successful delivery of projects.
- Responsible for the rectification and implementation of long-term preventative measures resulting from any NCR raised against the department.
- Participate & contribute to any lessons learned and continuous improvement meetings.
- Lead the development of processes to improve efficiency and project delivery.
- Identify suitable sub-contractor supply chain assessing competence to perform scopes.
- Responsible for verifying sub-contractor output is correct in accordance with scope provided by Project Engineering.
- Responsible for the definition, adherence, and continual review of all ISO 9001 procedures and templates relating to discipline, supporting internal and external audits as required.
- Engage with the performance review process and take actions to address areas for improvement.

Requirements
- Qualified in a relevant design or engineering discipline (HNC, degree Level)
- Experience within a Mechanical Design Engineering field.
- Excellent knowledge of bulk material handling, conveyor systems, and associated equipment.
- 3D CAD software knowledge (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- GPDM system knowledge (Autodesk Vault preferred).
- Knowledge of technical drawing and drafting standards (BS 8888).
- Understanding of the design process, and its associated documentation.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes associated with mechanical design.
- Knowledge of machinery design standards and regulations.
- Understanding of Mechanical design principles and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA).
- Experience of workload and project planning. (Microsoft Project preferred)
- Experience of checking designs, drawings, models, and technical documentation.
- Proficient at using Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to clearly communicate design ideas, both internally and externally along with meeting deadlines.
- Ability to mentor and guide junior colleagues.
- Strong people management skills
- A high attention to detail and committed to quality performance / output.
