Identify trauma patients meeting registry inclusion criteria per SC Trauma Registry Data Dictionary, NTDB and ACS standards
Abstract clinical and outcomes data from pre-hospital EMS database and in-patient medical record (demographics, co-morbidities, diagnoses, injuries, ED data, operations, procedures, complications, outcomes, performance improvement, and financial data)
Code procedures, diagnoses, and injuries using ICD-10, AIS injury coding, E-codes and enter data into Trauma Registry
Maintain registry within NTDB, State Trauma Registry Data Dictionary, and PHR Trauma Program standards
Perform data analysis and data validation for monitoring data quality, errors, and omissions
Prepare reports for performance improvement, research, administrative and medical staff meetings, injury prevention, and Trauma Center designation/verification
Prepare, process and submit Trauma Registry records to State Trauma Registry quarterly and annually to NTDB
Participate in performance improvement monitoring and report trends to PI Coordinator and TPM
Ensure compliance with Palmetto Health HIPPA and IRB research policies
Attend and participate in Multi-disciplinary Trauma Patient Care Conference, Committees, and Trauma Association of South Carolina
Work with Trauma Registry software vendor and PHR IT on data submissions, upgrades, imports, and enhancements
Respond to information requests and write reports to support coding, billing, trauma research, injury prevention, and other Trauma Program activities
Requirements
Associate Degree in Health Information Management or related field of study
Two (2) years in medical record coding or relevant clinical experience
In Lieu Of: AHIMA, AAPC coding certification, CSTR and/or CAISS, or other healthcare related licensure accepted as equivalent
Required Certifications (preferred or eligible): RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CSTR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry)
Requires AAAM course certification (AIS coding) and Trauma Registry Course within one (1) year
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 coding, AIS coding, E-codes, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and disease processes
Computer literate and proficient in keyboarding, spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
Ability to analyze and report registry data to support the activities of the Trauma Program
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
Knowledge of National standards published by the ACS, State Standards published by DHEC and State Trauma Regulations
Ability to comply with Palmetto Health HIPPA and IRB research policies
