About the role

  • Develop the group’s tax strategy, ensuring appropriate controls, processes and teams are in place to support the delivery of that strategy.
  • Management of all group tax issues in a way which achieves the board’s main objectives whist minimising exposure to risk, achieving efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the in-house tax function for the Group. Key objective being to reduce reliance on external advisers in terms of fees but retain relationships and co-ordinate external input where specialist advice is needed.
  • Establish and manage Group tax compliance and reporting procedures and embed these within the wider finance function. In particular liaise with external auditor on tax sign off for year end.
  • Provide tax support on corporate finance projects to ensure tax risks associated with transactions are minimised.
  • Manage external communication with HMRC across all areas of tax in terms of compliance, enquiries and investigations.

Requirements

  • Expert specialist knowledge of managing tax affairs in a related business environment.
  • Experience of preparing detailed year-end tax calculations and consolidations, including IAS 12 understanding, deferred tax knowledge and experience, CIR understanding and experience of group reporting.
  • Professional qualification held.
  • Significant track record of relevant practice or industry experience at a senior level and previous experience of managing a group of professional staff.
