About the role
- Act as the gate between Sales and Operations teams to ensure packaging designs meet criteria.
- Facilitate conversations directly with customers, suppliers, and vendors.
- Develop qualification and testing protocols for new materials and products.
- Identify, participate, and lead cross-functional teams.
- Perform feasibility and machinability reviews on new business opportunities.
- Translate customer requirements into product specifications.
- Develop and execute qualification and testing protocols for trials.
- Act as the lead technical point of contact for assigned customers.
- Support training initiatives with peers and new team members.
- Manage the contents of the sample inventory area.
- Assist Field Service Engineers with technical service requests.
- Support the creation of packaging specifications in conjunction with engineering support.
- Assist in the qualification of film on new equipment or material grades.
- Develop CAD drawings for new tooling designs.
- Assist with other technical duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
- 6-10+ years of experience in packaging engineering development.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment or R&D team.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Passion for continuous improvement.
- Proficient in data analysis and math skills.
- Experience using standard test equipment including micrometers and tensile testers.
- Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, and other relevant testing protocols.
- Detail-oriented for documentation and information system inputs.
- Trained in continuous improvement methods (lean manufacturing, six sigma, etc.).
- Proven project management skills with multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
