About the role

  • Develop and lead the dimensional control strategy to align Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and the Supply Base.
  • Develop engineering capability through mentoring and classroom training; elevate consistency across teams and platforms.
  • Establish dimensional requirements flow down from vehicle goals to systems, components, and suppliers.
  • Define datum/locator schemes, measurement approaches, and variation metrics from component through full assembly.
  • Lead tolerance analysis and variation studies to guide design decisions and ensure manufacturing feasibility.
  • Define measurement system strategies and capability expectations, including CMM/3D scanning, fixtures, and MSA/GR&R.
  • Engage early with NPI teams to proactively manage dimensional variation and ensure fit, finish, and functional quality.
  • Drive dimensional readiness for prototype, pilot, and production builds, including measurement plans and issue resolution.
  • Partner with suppliers to assess and improve dimensional capability, ensuring PPAP and production readiness.
  • Create and maintain dimensional control standards, converting lessons learned into tools and best practices across programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years in dimensional, manufacturing, quality, or design engineering with strong dimensional variation management experience
  • Highly skilled in application and interpretation of GD&T per ASME Y14.5; demonstrated experience advising design teams on functional tolerancing and datum strategy
  • GDTP Technologist Level Certification per ASME Y14.5 or above preferred
  • Experience establishing measurement approaches and correlating results across engineering, plants, suppliers, and third parties
  • Working knowledge of metrology methods: CMM, 3D scanning, and functional gaging; PolyWorks experience preferred (or equivalent metrology software for programming and reporting)
  • Familiarity with APQP/PPAP or other gated NPI quality systems; ability to translate dimensional risk into practical controls
  • Strong communication, influence, and coaching skills; able to lead cross-functional decisions without direct authority
  • Self-starter with the ability to create standards, teach others, and drive change.
