About the role
- Contribute to the implementation of new end-to-end indirect tax processes as part of cross-functional projects supporting the company’s growth
- Review commercial contracts with new partners to determine tax implications in the applicable jurisdictions
- Prepare Canadian indirect tax returns and associated remittances
- Analyze and prepare tax account balances/reconciliations and record all tax-related journal entries
- Assist with international tax compliance procedures, federal excise taxes and other tax obligations, and coordinate with external consultants as necessary to meet deadlines
- Support government tax audits and compliance reviews by gathering and preparing all required documentation and correspondence
- Conduct research, perform data analysis, and participate in assigned projects and other related tasks
- Stay up to date on relevant federal, provincial and foreign legislative and regulatory changes, identify tax issues, provide recommendations to management and implement necessary adjustments to maintain best practices
Requirements
- University degree in accounting, taxation or a related field (preferred)
- Professional CPA designation (preferred)
- 2–3 years of tax experience at a Big Four firm
- Experience in Canadian taxation, strong knowledge of GST/HST and QST filings, and experience dealing with the CRA and Revenu Québec
- Knowledge of international tax regulations (an asset)
- French language proficiency (an asset)
- Experience in e-commerce and other technology industries (an asset)
- Experience in tax research
- Ability to work independently, meet objectives and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines
- Ability to analyze, assess and resolve a variety of issues to ensure accuracy and timely delivery
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel (pivot tables and VLOOKUP) and tax technologies
