About the role

  • Develop and execute communications plans, including message and content development across public affairs accounts and policy areas.
  • Draft written materials such as press releases, fact sheets, op-eds, executive speeches, memos, and annual reports.
  • Provide communications and project management support for key client accounts.
  • Craft narratives by distilling complex policy and regulatory information into tangible messaging for varied audiences.
  • Draft media and messaging materials, including talking points and opinion pieces.
  • Manage grassroots field teams for coalition building and local earned media efforts.
  • Coordinate media outreach and cultivate relationships with reporters.
  • Develop presentations, collateral materials, strategic plans and other reports.
  • Track and monitor campaign deliverables and serve as a project manager for key accounts.
  • Serve as liaison between PLUS internal team, the client, agency partners, and external vendors.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in public affairs or communications, ideally in an agency or Capitol Hill/administration setting.
  • Proven experience in writing and editing materials and working with the press.
  • Strong understanding of AP Style.
  • Interest in public affairs and policy issues; ability to synthesize technical content.
  • Understanding of the communications landscape and how various communications channels work (i.e. digital, print, social, broadcast).
  • Experience distilling complex policy and regulatory information into tangible messaging for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience drafting media and messaging materials, such as press releases, talking points, media statements, opinion pieces, fact sheets.
  • Experience managing grassroots field teams for coalition building and local earned media efforts.
  • Experience coordinating media outreach and cultivating relationships with reporters.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients and vendors on day-to-day deliverables.
  • Knack with words and ability to write on a variety of topics with quick turnaround.
  • Solutions-oriented mindset and willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
