About the role
- The Public Affairs and Advocacy Manager perform a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to the following:
- Represents Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey’s mission and Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey policy positions when speaking to external audiences.
- Responsible for building and running Generation Action, our campus-based advocacy and outreach program. This role leads programs to harness the power, energy, and enthusiasm of young people to fight for reproductive freedom.
- Responsible for building and maintaining the Health Center Advocacy Program (HCAP) in our five health centers. Recruit, educate, and empower patients at our Planned Parenthood health centers to become advocates for their own health care and for Planned Parenthood.
- Ability to relate to diverse communities.
- Works in collaboration with Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ Field Director to implement strategy; draft and execute campaign plans; and manage deliverables needed to achieve advocacy efforts across the state.
- Volunteer engagement and management include but is not limited to interviewing potential volunteers and providing training to encourage the volunteer's success; tracking volunteers’ involvement, such as number of hours served and impact; working with other departments to ensure volunteer engagement needs are met.
- Provides direction to community and coalition partnerships as well as grassroots organizations by providing trainings, leadership development, and membership recruitment.
- Creates collateral materials needed for all volunteer and advocacy programs.
- Leads additional action activities such as citizen lobbying, tabling, canvassing, community presentations and phone banking.
- Organizes community events and all related logistics, outreach, and recruitment.
- Spearhead do-it-yourself advocacy/fundraising events.
- Ensures diversity in volunteer and coalition base.
- Supports Communications function by drafting content and updating social media.
- Provides timely reporting to supervisor, department Vice President, state office and other stakeholders as requested.
- Ensure compliance with conditions of 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and PAC guidelines for approved activities.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s level degree in related field.
- Minimum Work Experience: 2-3 years of related experience. Previous experience in political/grassroots organizing a plus. Experience in coalition recruitment, project management, and database management preferred.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license. Reliable transportation to travel throughout the service area
