About the role

  • Develops overall vision and plan for long-term power-building infrastructure across the Federation, including development of Public Affairs staff, the deep engagement of key constituencies, PPFA/PPAF’s volunteer base, and allies. This includes the transformative evolution of our supporter leadership program to increase accountability and collaboration at many levels of the organization.
  • Evolves the Federation’s organizing approach to adapt to the post-Roe landscape, including establishing new advocacy and organizing approaches to integrate hyper-local and long-term campaign work.
  • Establish Planned Parenthood as a leading global expert in restoring abortion rights, building coalitions, and supporting campaigns to support both immediate and long-term work.
  • Provide transformational, authoritative advice and thought leadership across the progressive movement to ensure intersectional prioritization of sexual and reproductive healthcare, including abortion access.
  • Implements organizing strategies and tactics as part of strategic national campaigns in deep collaboration with the National Campaigns Director
  • Raise the organization's profile and increase relationships within the donor community, modeling thought leadership and expertise.
  • In partnership with senior leadership, the National Director provides strategic thought leadership across the Federation and the broader progressive movement on organizing strategy to restore and protect abortion access and reproductive healthcare. The role also helps elevate Planned Parenthood as a national and global leader in organizing, coalition building, and movement strategy.

Requirements

  • Over 10+ years of professional experience working as a lead organizer at both the state and national levels, with a mix of electoral, legislative, and movement organizing experience.
  • Commitment to gender justice and reproductive freedom values. Extensive familiarity with women’s and social justice organizations and actors is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of mass mobilization combined with strong follow-up organizing to strengthen a supporter base over time.
  • Excellent communication, writing, editing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Experience and comfort with working with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for innovation and experimentation in the campaign’s organizing program.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, develop work plans, and meet target goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop staff.
  • Ability to work in partnership and coalition with organizations both nationally and locally.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced culture of high output, open communication, low ego, and no drama.
  • Minimum education requirement of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Collaborative work style and experience working in a federated structure.
  • Significant travel required.
