Job Level
About the role
- Own product analytics across our product suite, defining how product usage is tracked, measured, and understood (yes, including the arguments about what actually counts as usage).
- Lead the implementation and ongoing evolution of Amplitude (e.g.), including event taxonomy, data models, and governance—so “event sprawl” doesn’t quietly ruin everyone’s dashboards.
- Partner with frontend and backend engineers to implement, validate, and maintain accurate client-side and server-side event tracking (because “it should be firing” is not a validation strategy).
- Combine event data (e.g. Amplitude) with application data (e.g. Postgres → Snowflake) to analyze product usage, adoption, and behavior—and reconcile the moments when the numbers disagree.
- Write advanced SQL to identify trends, validate data accuracy, and answer ambiguous product questions.
- Deliver clear insights, dashboards, and narratives that inform product strategy and prioritization—ideally without needing a 20-minute explanation of how the metric is calculated.
- Enable Product Managers to define success metrics and effectively measure outcomes (and gently intervene when success is defined as “people seem to like it”).
- Act as the primary point of contact with Amplitude to ensure we are getting maximum value from the platform and not just paying for features no one uses.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in product analytics, product data, or a related analytics role.
- Deep hands-on experience with event-based analytics tools (e.g. Amplitude, Segment, Pendo, etc.).
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large, production-scale datasets—comfortable reading queries you wrote six months ago and wondering what past-you was thinking.
- Experience working with data warehouses (Snowflake preferred) and application (relational) databases (e.g. Postgres or similar).
- Strong understanding of client-side vs. server-side event tracking and their tradeoffs (and why “let’s just track it both ways” is not always the answer).
- Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Astrato, Looker, Tableau, etc.).
- Strong intuition for how users interact with products and how to measure meaningful behavior.
- Ability to translate ambiguous product questions into concrete analytical approaches.
- Comfortable challenging assumptions and calling out data quality or interpretation issues—politely, but firmly.
- Able to balance rigor with pragmatism when working with imperfect data (because perfect data is a myth).
- Clear, concise communicator who can explain insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable partnering directly with Product Managers, Engineers, and Product Leadership.
- Proactive, opinionated, and able to operate effectively as a first-of-its-kind role—without waiting for a playbook that doesn’t exist yet.
