About the role

  • responsible for the development of technical documentation to support Apex's platform, including our APIs and the clients who use them
  • produce content for developer audiences
  • support rapid software-development cycles
  • update and create new technical content for the Apex API and our externally facing knowledge base
  • partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Technical Content Management, and other key stakeholders across Apex
  • ensure the accuracy and completeness of our documentation
  • lead by example, consistently delivering high-standard content that adheres to our writing guidelines
  • mentor less experienced team members
  • identify opportunities for increased efficiency and enhancements to our content offerings
  • uphold best practices and professionalism, even under pressure

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (in English, technical communications, computer science, or a similar field)
  • 7+ years of experience as a technical writer for a developer audience at a fast-paced software company
  • Proven experience writing detailed, user-centered API and programming documentation in a fast-paced software environment
  • Outstanding ability to grasp and communicate interrelationships between topics clearly and meaningfully and to present information in a logical hierarchy and in a consistent manner
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple focus areas and tasks
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional collaboration with people at all levels of an organization
  • Courage to advocate for yourself and for our user’s needs, backing your opinions with experience and facts
  • A bias for action and a positive attitude with an innate and finely tuned attention to detail
  • Current knowledge of the evolving style of technical documentation and enablement resources for developer audiences
  • Ability to work in US time zones (ideally Central Standard Time)
  • Experience with Markdown or another markup language, GitHub, Jira, and Swagger
  • One or more programming languages (Java, Go, Python, Typescript)
  • A strong writing portfolio to demonstrate these skills.
