About the role

  • Manages medium complexity outages, maintenance activities and some capital projects, typically less than 6 weeks in duration and with cost less than $5 million.
  • Leads Outage Safety Plan development and meetings, pre and post outage as required.
  • Leads outage pre-planning and coordinates all startup activities.
  • Works closely with Project Managers to oversee development of scope and development of comprehensive outage schedules and costs.
  • Ensures appropriate scope freeze deadlines and pre-outage activities are completed as scheduled.
  • Leads scheduling personnel in building schedules related to outage activities.
  • Provides direction, information and advice regarding the schedule to all other groups.
  • Develops and manages resource management plan.
  • Understands the planned project requirements and establish a contingency plan for shifts in resource requirements.
  • Provides oversight for outage scope control, coordinating closely with Plant Management to ensure all scope changes are prudent
  • Responsible for daily site coordination and provides a direct interface between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Construction, and other auxiliary personnel with the goal of keeping attention focused on completing outage work as scheduled.
  • Performs evaluation of emergent outage work, coordinate and approve all additions to the scope and schedule in accordance with guidelines and applicable procedures.
  • Develops, implements and manages outage documentation and communication plan, including criteria for levels of documentation required and frequency of updates.
  • Responsible for Final Outage Report and transfer of all project documents to the appropriate parties, including documenting lessons learned and implementing corrective actions within the outage management organization for use system-wide as appropriate.
  • Supervises, through a matrix organization, the project team consisting of engineers, maintenance, construction, startup, and other personnel providing onsite support to ensure critical path activities are completed as planned, and cost and scope are controlled. Also includes supervising vendors and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Must obtain a California Class C Driver’s license (or equivalent) by day 1 of hire
  • 6+ years of experience in operations, maintenance, project management or construction (outage-related)
  • Travel is required to support outages in Power Generation
  • BA/BS degree in Business Management, Engineering, or Construction, or related field.
  • Construction Management PMP
  • First line supervision experience
  • Hydro generation start-up experience is a Plus
  • Knowledgeable and experience with Power Generating facility systems, structures, and components
  • Knowledge of appropriate Technical Specifications
  • Knowledgeable and experience with work management processes and the SAP system.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and guidelines, and familiarity with industry standards.
  • Knowledge of Primavera (P6) scheduling software and all scheduling tools including milestone structure and work monitoring.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a matrix organization.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to support organizations and leadership.
  • Ability to recognize and react to emergent issues with the required urgency.
