About the role

  • Develop innovative, cross-functional, technical solutions that enable Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) across PG&E’s business, with a focus on scalable and sustainable system design.
  • Gather and translate business requirements into clear design documentation, technical specifications, and software test plans. Lead and conduct technology testing and validation efforts, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and support deployment of new tools and solutions.
  • Establish and maintain standards and processes to ensure consistent implementation and long-term support of newly developed solutions.
  • Configure and scale enterprise-level technical products, ensuring alignment with organizational architecture and long-term planning needs.
  • Propose and support development of new value models, including drafting technical specifications and collaborating on model design and configuration.
  • Partner with leadership to interpret planning needs, design new value measures, and configure corresponding technical solutions.
  • Review and interpret existing risk models to validate optimization outcomes and ensure consistency with engineering logic and business priorities.
  • Identify and define data necessary to advance IGP solution development and long-term planning capabilities.
  • Provide thought leadership by articulating research needs and exploring emerging technologies that enhance the organization’s planning and decision-support tools.
  • Independently develops and executes new practical solutions to highly complex problems.
  • Collaborate with team or teams of engineers with diverse backgrounds. Bridge technical understanding across teams by creating a common engineering logic and language among asset family owners, risk groups, and IGP program teams.
  • May provide expert opinion or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies or other parties.
  • Recognized outside the company as an expert on a particular engineering/technical field or discipline. Represents PG&E and speaks at conferences or seminars. May write articles in trade journals. Influences industry developments.
  • Exercises independent judgment in leading and resolving problems of large impact, scope and complexity with few precedents or standards requiring integration of information from a variety of sources.
  • Develops, evaluates and deploys new technologies. Identifies innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations and recommendations to clients based on project results/findings. Capable of adjusting message for variety of audiences from field operations to senior leadership.
  • Assesses business conditions, identifies opportunities, and develops projects & solutions from a multifunctional or multidisciplinary perspective.
  • Leads and manages projects and programs independently which includes developing and executing on innovative, novel, and complex solutions with high financial impact to PG&E and/or the client by taking ownership of scope, schedule, budget and communications.
  • Oversees assembly of technical systems and prototypes according to engineering standards and knowledge of related principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
  • 7 years of related experience
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline, namely Power System/Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with investment planning tools, such as Copperleaf or similar decision support platforms.
  • Proficiency in Python, including ability to use it for data analysis, automation, model development, and engineering logic workflows.
  • Solid understanding of utility planning and grid operations.
  • Proficiency in Foundry (Palantir Foundry) for data integration, modeling, and solution development.
  • Proven track record managing complex, multi stage projects and collaborating with cross functional teams.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, with a history of enabling and supporting peers and stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting user research and integrating customer feedback into product design and roadmapping.
  • Background or strong interest in the energy, utility, or clean technology sectors.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn, experiment, and integrate new analytical or technical methods.
  • Strong problem solving mindset, with the ability to think critically and propose practical solutions.
  • Growth oriented learning mindset, continuously seeking improvement and new skills.
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Implementation Engineering and a solid foundation in Electric and Power Systems Engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Hands-on experience with software implementation, including deployment, configuration, and user adoption.
