About the role
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on employment-related matters, including hiring, discipline, termination, wage and hour compliance, leaves of absence, accommodations, and workplace investigations
- Draft, review, and update employment-related policies, handbooks, offer letters, separation agreements, and restrictive covenants
- Support HR in employee relations issues and internal investigations
- Monitor and advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Manage and oversee employment and general commercial litigation, including working with outside counsel
- Develop litigation strategy, evaluate risk, and manage budgets and timelines
- Assist with pre-litigation disputes, demand letters, subpoenas, and regulatory inquiries
- Support discovery efforts, including document collection, review, and production
- Develop, implement, and manage litigation hold procedures
- Issue and track litigation hold notices and ensure compliance across the organization
- Coordinate with IT, HR, and business units to preserve relevant documents and electronically stored information (ESI)
- Assist in maintaining and improving records retention policies
- Provide legal oversight for employment-based immigration matters (e.g., H-1B and employment authorization issues), primarily through coordination with outside immigration counsel
- Advise HR and management on immigration compliance, work authorization, and related employment issues
- Support policy development related to global mobility and immigration compliance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR, Commercial, Finance, Compliance, and Operations
- Assist with legal research and special projects as needed
- Contribute to process improvements and scalable legal solutions
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from a top-tier law school
- Active license and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 12+ years of experience in employment law, litigation, or a combination of law firm and in-house experience
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws
- Experience managing litigation and working with outside counsel
- Familiarity with litigation holds, e-discovery, and records management practices
- Exposure to employment-based immigration matters preferred
- Excellent judgment, communication, and organizational skills
