Salary
💰 $380,000 - $460,000 per year
About the role
- Join OpenAI’s Consumer Products team to develop, validate, and scale advanced display modules
- Own display component and system-level metrology and act as the primary technical interface to suppliers
- Coordinate across optical, electrical, mechanical, and panel design disciplines to take displays from concept through production
- Develop and utilize advanced metrology tools to measure and assess display performance
- Lead characterization and precision measurement of display, focusing on key performance metrics
- Manage and oversee display test operations, including test plan execution, lab workflows, and test data pipelines
- Develop display module specifications in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Lead cross-functional technical efforts spanning optical, electrical, mechanical, process and panel design specialists
- Serve as the primary technical contact for display suppliers and manage supplier engineering activities
- Characterize both device and full-module display performance to drive continuous improvement and innovation
- Optimize display quality by ensuring color accuracy, brightness uniformity, and other imaging performance goals
- Hands-on characterization of electro-optical performance, data analysis and image processing, and scripting for lab-level measurement automation
- Run and coordinate failure analysis with vendors and internal teams; identify root causes and drive corrective actions
- Review and validate vendor test data and system integration results to ensure spec compliance
- Identify, prioritize, document, and drive closure of engineering issues to meet program timelines
- Support engineering builds and initial mass production: resolve ramp issues, handle field returns related to displays, and qualify solutions for production
- Prepare technical documentation and presentations for program reviews
- Typical day: benchtop electro-optical measurements, building/adapting metrology setups and automating measurement sequences, statistical analysis of test results, and coordinating failure investigations with suppliers
