About the role
- Lead the engineering effort for new and ongoing substation projects
- Support multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership to ensure project success
- Work in small project teams to provide customer service and quality deliverables
- Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans
- Prepare engineering/project cost estimates and schedules
- Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers
- Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects
- Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks
- Prepare calculations, studies, and reports meeting internal and client standards and requirements
- Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas
- Coordinate with multi-discipline (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) project teams to execute substation projects
- Provide weekly updates to senior team leaders and/or project managers on milestone progress and percent completion of activities
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field
- Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment
- Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards
- Knowledge of Protection and Controls design (must)
- Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is a plus
- Experience with relay settings is a plus
- Knowledge of substation physical equipment is a plus
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- PE license strongly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytical and problem-solving, organizational and proactive skills
