About the role

  • Lead the engineering effort for new and ongoing substation projects
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously and work closely with NV5 Substation Engineering leadership to ensure project success
  • Work in small project teams to provide customer service and quality deliverables
  • Prepare conceptual designs and execution plans
  • Prepare engineering/project cost estimates and schedules
  • Perform and document quality reviews for other engineers and designers
  • Prepare construction drawings, documents, calculations, and studies for medium and high voltage substation projects
  • Responsible for technical delivery of power delivery engineering projects or tasks
  • Prepare calculations, studies, and reports meeting internal and client standards and requirements
  • Apply engineering design principles and practices including formulas
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline (Civil, Structural, Physical, P&C, Transmission Line) project teams to execute substation projects
  • Provide weekly updates to senior team leaders and/or project managers on milestone progress and percent completion of activities

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in the Substation/Power Delivery field
  • Experience with high voltage substation design (12kV through 500kV) preparing one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel layouts, AC/DC schematics and wiring diagrams, physical layouts, electrical elevations, plans (equipment, grounding, and raceway), and bills of materials including selection of non-standard equipment
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards including IEEE, IEC, NESC, and client standards
  • Knowledge of Protection and Controls design (must)
  • Experience with power system calculations (AC station service, DC battery sizing, and Voltage Drop/Cable Selection) is a plus
  • Experience with relay settings is a plus
  • Knowledge of substation physical equipment is a plus
  • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • PE license strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical and problem-solving, organizational and proactive skills
