About the role
- Design and develop custom simulation frameworks and models for novel experiments on superconducting devices
- Understand and improve existing simulation tools as well as develop new ones
- Debug existing simulation tools and support implementation of new capabilities
- Support the current and future development of simulation tools within function, cost, and schedule constraints
- Analyze simulation results on superconducting qubits
- Mentor less experienced staff to help them learn software development skills
- Collaborate in a small group setting (4-7 people) and work independently
- Work on site at Northrop Grumman’s Linthicum or Annapolis Junction, MD area facilities (100% onsite)
- Contribute to mission-enabling solutions for global security as part of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance per business requirements
- Basic Qualifications (Principal level): Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in STEM with 3 years relevant experience OR Master's and currently enrolled in PhD with completion before start with 1 year relevant experience OR PhD in STEM with 1 year relevant experience
- Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal level): PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or STEM with 4 years professional experience; Master's degree with 6 years relevant professional experience; Bachelor's degree with 8 years professional experience
- Experience with physics-based simulations
- Experience developing models to understand experimental results
- Experience in a collaborative software development environment
- Familiarity with software best practices and development lifecycle
- Proficiency writing code in Python
- Experience mentoring teams and providing leadership in a scientific setting (Sr. Principal)
- Preferred: PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or STEM field
- Preferred: Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python
- Preferred: Experience with code parallelization in an HPC environment
- Preferred: Experience with code review
- Preferred: Leadership experience working on a scientific research team
- Preferred: Experience with codebase design and architecture
- Preferred: Active U.S. Government security clearance
- Willingness/ability to travel up to 10% of the time
