Backend Engineer

• Develop features and improvements to NewsWhip products in a secure, well-tested, and performant way
• Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders within Engineering (Frontend, UX, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment
• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
• Solve technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
• Recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team ("technical debt"), propose and implement solutions

Customer Support

• Be an expert on the sources that power NewsWhip’s platforms
• Be responsible for the addition of various sources to NewsWhip’s content database
• Prioritizing tickets logged by other team members and researching markets
• Tagging and sorting these sources based on characteristics
• Handle customer support queries via Intercom and escalate to the appropriate team, when necessary
• Manage NewsWhip’s content database using internal tools

• Lead two multi-disciplinary feature teams delivering NewsWhip's ambitious AI roadmap
• Work closely with Product and UX leaders to shape and execute AI strategy
• Manage diverse engineering teams that bring innovative solutions to life
• Partner deeply with Product and UX leads as part of the core product delivery triad
• Actively contribute to product strategy and roadmap planning
• Drive feature definition and scope through close collaboration with Product Management and UX Design
• Proactively identify and communicate emerging AI technology opportunities
• Facilitate discovery sessions and technical spikes to validate approaches and identify risks early
• Foster a collaborative environment where Engineering, Product, and UX work seamlessly together
• Manage team performance, career development, and growth
• Ensure delivery plans, team structure, and engineering outputs align with business objectives
