About the role

  • Owning the delivery of accurate management and statutory accounts
  • Managing month-end, quarter-end and year-end close
  • Overseeing multi-entity reporting and consolidation
  • Ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards, HMRC requirements and internal policies
  • Act as primary contact for external auditors and manage the audit process
  • Strengthen financial controls across all core finance processes through robust internal control frameworks, balance sheet reviews and reconciliations.
  • Ensure full compliance by overseeing VAT, tax and duty submissions, proactively identifying risks, and implementing practical, scalable improvements.
  • Leading day‑to‑day finance operations (AP, AR, GL, bank, systems)
  • Leading and developing a high-performing Financial Control team
  • Managing cashflow, treasury activity and multi-currency banking
  • Maintaining strong internal controls and driving process improvement
  • Acting as key liaison for external auditors, tax advisors, banks and financial partners
  • Leveraging our finance tech stack: Sage X3 ERP, DocuWare, Expensify, PayCaptain, AI etc

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAEW)
  • Experience at Finance Manager / Management Accountant level, or existing Financial Controller in a similar-sized organisation
  • Demonstrated readiness to step into a Financial Controller role
  • Experience across core finance operations (AP/AR, payroll, month-end, reconciliations)
  • Exposure to multi-entity and/or multi-currency environments, including consolidation
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring team members, with appetite to lead a larger team
  • Strong systems capability, ideally including ERP (Sage X3 desirable)
  • Experience working in a well-controlled, system-enabled finance environment, with focus on optimisation
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
  • High attention to detail with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
  • Confident communicator with ability to work cross-functionally
