About the role

  • Directing strategy, implementation, and management of competitive and invited grantmaking, procurement, and contracting processes that advance NFF program goals.
  • Implementing and refining organizational grantmaking and procurement policies and processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal regulations, NFF policies, and risk-management expectations.
  • Advising leadership on compliance matters, process improvements, risk exposure, and operational needs.
  • Leading and mentoring approximately 15 FTEs across the Grantmaking and Contracts & Procurement teams, including two direct reports: the Grantmaking Senior Manager and the Contracts and Procurement Attorney.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to enhance grantmaking programs and procurement systems in alignment with the NFF strategic plan.
  • Overseeing communications and service to applicants, approved grantees and vendors.
  • Coordinating with Conservation Operations staff to implement management systems that support efficient, consistent team and organizational operations.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient information flow across systems.
  • Overseeing staff training for core grantmaking, contracting, and procurement processes.
  • Promoting consistent, accessible processes that improve internal understanding and external usability.
  • Solving problems across complex, evolving operational contexts.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance, procurement requirements, and related policies and procedures.
  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary teams with a demonstrated ability to motivate, build trust, and advance strategic goals.
  • Experience building or improving cross-functional processes.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in natural resources, public administration and policy, business administration, legal studies, nonprofit management, or other related fields — or equivalent experience.
  • At least eight years of experience with proven results in grantmaking, contracting, procurement, or related community development work.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the NFF mission and a strong understanding of National Forest management or natural resource issues.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Strong writing skills and public-speaking experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
