Senior Backend Engineer, Elixir

Systems Engineer

• Maintain and improve Home Assistant OS support for Nabu Casa hardware platforms, contributing where appropriate within the wider Home Assistant OS ecosystem.
• Work closely with Home Assistant OS contributors and Open Home Foundation developers to improve platform support, resolve issues, and enable new hardware platforms.
• Support board bring-up activities for new hardware products, including Buildroot configuration, board support packages (BSPs), bootloader configuration, partition layouts, and system services.
• Optimise operating-system performance, hardware utilisation, stability, and reliability across supported devices.
• Maintain and improve the Buildroot-based build infrastructure, ensuring builds remain reproducible, maintainable, and efficient.
• Investigate and resolve platform-level issues including boot regressions, driver failures, hardware compatibility problems, update issues, kernel panics, and power-management defects.
• Collaborate closely with the Hardware Team during development and validation of new boards. The Hardware Team owns hardware design and production; you ensure reliable operating-system support and compatibility.
• Upstream patches as required to Linux, U-Boot, Buildroot, or other related open-source projects.
• Work with silicon vendors, hardware partners, and open-source maintainers when required to improve platform support and resolve lower-level issues.
• Contribute to operating-system security hardening and platform reliability improvements.
• Help maintain healthy CI pipelines for operating-system builds and platform validation.
• Document platform architecture, board support status, debugging procedures, known limitations, and key technical decisions.

Senior Embedded Linux OS Engineer

• Own integrations and software support for Nabu Casa products across Home Assistant, ESPHome, and related Open Home Foundation ecosystems throughout the full product lifecycle.
• Build and maintain Python integrations, proxy libraries, and software components that connect Nabu Casa products to the Home Assistant and ESPHome ecosystems — expanding these components is a primary focus initially.
• Write and maintain Python software that interfaces with device protocols and hardware peripherals, translating low-level behaviour into clean Home Assistant entities and user experiences.
• Collaborate closely with the Embedded Linux OS Engineer and Hardware team to understand hardware capabilities and translate them into well-structured software integrations.
• Contribute to Home Assistant core, ESPHome, and related projects where needed to support integrations, config flows, entity models, and platform functionality.
• Own code quality within your areas by writing well-tested, maintainable, and well-documented Python code.
• Review community pull requests and issues related to owned integrations, providing clear and constructive feedback that helps move contributions forward.
• Investigate and resolve software and integration issues including protocol edge cases, compatibility problems, regression bugs, and device communication failures.
• Maintain healthy unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop test coverage where applicable.

• Own the performance of Nabu Casa's digital channels — website, email, SEO, paid, and social — with clear targets for reach, conversion, and subscriber growth.
• Plan and execute digital campaigns end-to-end, from brief through creative to post-campaign analysis, aligned with product launches and commercial priorities.
• Build and improve our organic search presence through content strategy and on-site SEO, reducing reliance on paid traffic over time.
• Run email marketing for Nabu Casa Cloud subscribers — lifecycle flows, release announcements, and re-engagement — and track the metrics that matter.
• Own paid digital spend and ROI across channels; allocate and optimise the budget with rigor.
• Report on digital performance weekly and bring a clear point of view on what to prioritise next.
• Grow and engage Nabu Casa's presence in the communities where our users live — Home Assistant forums, Reddit, YouTube, and adjacent open-source and smart home spaces.
• Test new growth levers — affiliate, referral, influencer — with structured experiments and documented learnings.

Digital Marketing Manager

Technical Writer

• Own the end-to-end documentation experience for Nabu Casa Hardware and Cloud, ensuring content is accurate, up-to-date, and discoverable
• Plan and deliver documentation for new features, integrations, and releases in sync with the product shipping cycle
• Work directly with engineers to research and verify technical content, reducing the documentation burden on the engineering team
• Audit and improve existing documentation continuously — flagging outdated content, filling gaps, and improving structure and tone
• Define and maintain documentation standards, style guides, and templates so that community contributions are consistent and maintainable
• Triage and act on documentation feedback from the community, support, and internal teams to prioritise what improves user outcomes most
• Contribute to the developer experience — API guides, integration documentation, and contributor docs — to support the OHF community and partner integrations
