About the role
- Provide day to day supervision of underwriters and underwriting processes to ensure quality and underwriting control
- Allocate underwriting resources to manage workloads, policy issuance, and timely premium collection
- Conduct departmental self-audits and manage self-audit process, reporting and monitoring corrective actions
- Identify and recommend training needs based on self-audit trends and mentor underwriting staff
- Review and evaluate referrals from underwriters under expanded letter of authority
- Serve as liaison between Underwriting and Operations to ensure timely and accurate account servicing
- Assist implementation and monitoring of Account Management process
- Underwrite difficult, complex accounts and serve as underwriter for key producers
- Have individual production goals contributing to organizational revenue
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree (B.A.) preferred
- 10+ years related commercial lines experience (Workers Compensation and Property)
- Prior supervisory or management experience
- Highly knowledgeable in all Commercial Lines and company underwriting standards and practices
- Experience underwriting complex commercial accounts
- Ability to conduct departmental self-audits and manage corrective actions
- Experience mentoring and providing technical training to underwriting staff
- Periodic travel to agencies, customers, insurance functions and home office
