About the role

  • Designs, implements, and maintains complex database systems using database management systems (DBMS) such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL
  • Develops and implements data backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data availability and business continuity.
  • Works with integral members within the IT department to ensure database systems meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Identifies and resolves database performance and scalability issues.
  • Develops and implements database security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data.
  • Evaluates new database technologies and makes recommendations for adoption.
  • Trains and mentors junior database engineers
  • May lead projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional business travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred.
  • Master's Degree desired.
  • Five (5) plus years of experience in database engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with database security and disaster recovery planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud-based database systems such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL Database.
  • Demonstrated experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
  • Certification in a relevant DBMS or related technology.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes
  • Able to use one or more mapping/ETL tools (e.g., RedPoint Data Management, Alteryx, Data Stage, Dataflux, Informatica, SSIS, Sterling B2B Integrator).
  • Experience with one or more traditional development languages (e.g., python, java, C#, C++).
  • Experience processing data including validation techniques, processing efficiencies, file processing (hierarchical, flat, delimited, etc.), and retrieving or populating data within a Database Management System (DBMS).
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts, data quality, metadata management, and performance tuning.
  • Adept at designing and implementing large scale data integrations.
  • Strong experience using an enterprise data management tool or custom software development in that subject area.
