About the role
- Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of all corporate income tax returns (T2/1120/Local filings) and other tax filings such as GST/HST, VAT/Sales Tax, and withholding taxes for Canadian, US, and South Korean entities.
- Develop and implement proactive tax planning strategies to optimize the company’s worldwide effective tax rate and cash tax position.
- Monitor and analyze changes in Canadian, US, and international tax legislation, including BEPS, GILTI, and FDII, to assess their impact on business strategy.
- Manage the identification, analysis, preparation, and defense of all Canadian tax incentives, including the SR&ED tax credit program.
- Oversee compliance and filings for other relevant provincial and federal tax credits and grants.
- Maintain and manage global transfer pricing documentation and policies for intercompany transactions across all jurisdictions.
- Analyze and interpret tax implications of cross-border transactions, including permanent establishment risk and withholding tax.
- Manage Canadian Regulation 102 and 105 compliance for cross-border employees and contractors.
- Manage the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions (current and deferred tax) in accordance with ASC 740.
- Manage and coordinate all tax audits, inquiries, and reviews by domestic and international tax authorities.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks by implementing robust internal controls and maintaining clear tax policies.
- Provide tax advice to senior management and cross-functional teams on transactions, market expansion, and strategic initiatives.
- Selectively manage and collaborate with external tax advisors and consultants.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive corporate tax experience in a public accounting firm or a multinational corporation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation is required.
- Completion of a Graduate Diploma in Taxation or the CPA In-Depth Tax Course (or equivalent specialization).
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax (Federal and Provincial), with specific expertise in Quebec tax.
- Strong understanding of US corporate income tax (Federal, State, and International/subpart F).
- Working knowledge of South Korean tax compliance and experience managing external advisors for Korean filings.
- Expertise in tax provisioning (ASC 740), transfer pricing analysis, and SR&ED tax credit management.
- Experience with tax audit management and defense.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (NetSuite or equivalent) and advanced spreadsheet software such as Google Sheets.
- Familiarity with tax preparation and provision software (e.g., CCH, Thomson Reuters OneSource) and tax research tools like Taxnet Pro.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax audiences.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
