About the role
- Works closely with design originators preparing drawings of unusual, complex or original design
- Prepares drawings which require a high degree of precision
- Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and drafting expertise
- Assures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation and operation are resolved by the drawing produced
- Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent
- Provides advice, guidance, and instruction to drafters and may serve as primary point of contact for complex drafting projects
- Ability to prepare a complete drawing package without supervision
- Calculates Weight and Moments changes as a result of drawing
- Calculates electrical loads or heat loads for specific drawing and provide proper breakers, cable type/size or heat exchanger for requirements
- Selects proper material for structural members
- Assists Electrical/Mechanical engineers for stress/electrical/mechanical calculations
- Revises drawings to reflect As-Installed Conditions
- Utilizes World Wide Web for research and to research existing conditions and where to find that information
- Travel: 0 - 10% (site surveys and occasional fieldwork)
Requirements
- 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; or 0 years experience with Masters in related field
- 4 years of additional equivalent experience can be substituted for a BA/BS
- Candidate must be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or graduating college senior in good academic standing
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required prior to starting employment
- Complete knowledge with all tools of the trade (CAD program, rulers, compass, divider, calculator etc.) and complete knowledge of drafting and design standards
- Computer literacy, including use of word-processing, spreadsheet, database software
- Ability to assist in customization of CAD Software
- Intimate knowledge of Designing and Drafting Software
- Great oral and written communication skills
- Great attention to detail
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
- Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys
- Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift
- Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a lap top computer
