About the role

  • Lead the architectural direction for Medibank’s data platforms, ensuring scalability, security, resiliency, and performance across operational data, analytics, data governance, and integration capabilities
  • Develop and maintain architectural roadmaps and patterns for the data domain, aligned to enterprise strategy and delivery priorities
  • Partner across the Architecture Squad and with key stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable data platform strategies and solutions
  • Contribute to the development and tracking of architecture OKRs, KPIs, and scorecards relevant to data platforms
  • Stay informed on global and local trends in data, cloud, integration, and analytics technologies, and assess their relevance to Medibank’s strategic direction
  • Support annual strategic planning by advising on data capability, lifecycle management, and investment prioritisation across business domains
  • Identify and assess emerging technologies that enhance data management, analytics, and integration performance
  • Maintain visibility of innovation opportunities through use-case tracking and contribution to the emerging technology radar
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide architecture governance processes, ensuring data platform decisions align with internal and regulatory frameworks (e.g. APRA CPS 220/230)
  • Maintain and evolve standards, policies, and guardrails relevant to data platforms, including data governance, integration, and lifecycle management
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across business and technology teams, ensuring alignment and shared ownership of data platform outcomes
  • Actively contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives, committees, and communities, representing data architecture perspectives
  • Ensure risks related to data platforms are identified, assessed, and managed within Medibank’s risk appetite, with appropriate mitigation plans in place
  • Support compliance with internal risk, behaviour, and control frameworks, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and safe innovation
  • Establish, collaborate and ensure maintenance of artefacts within the domain such as catalogues, registers and diagrams
  • Identify and work with subject matter experts to understand the current knowledge assets for the domain
  • Identify high value knowledge assets for the domain that are critical for achieving successful execution of the domain direction
  • Actively publish key platform assets to secure awareness, buy-in and usage
  • Support cross-squad capacity planning and resource alignment for data platform initiatives
  • Identify and help remove delivery roadblocks, ensuring architecture support is available for critical programs and projects
  • Evaluate technologies and concepts that enhance data-driven customer experience and personalisation across digital channels
  • Ensure data platform architecture supports customer engagement, satisfaction, and retention through secure, scalable, and insightful data solutions
  • Translate strategic objectives into market-ready data capabilities, ensuring timely and effective delivery
  • Apply strategic approaches to optimise cost, value, and performance across the data technology landscape

Requirements

  • Ideally 7+ years’ experience delivering business-outcome focused solution and/or architecture within a complex corporate environment
  • Demonstrated experience leading architecture teams (e.g. senior, lead, and solution architects), with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and capability uplift
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to interpret business strategy and priorities, and translate them into pragmatic architectural advice, roadmaps, and target states
  • Proven ability to deliver target state architectures and roadmaps that incrementally enable strategic technology capabilities and business outcomes
  • Deep understanding of enterprise and solution architecture practices, standards, principles, and methodologies (e.g. TOGAF, SAFe), and how to apply them pragmatically to deliver value
  • Experience in business and technology modelling, including capability models, reference architectures, and process design
  • Strong knowledge of application and technology architecture including Software as a Service (SaaS) models, contemporary integration approaches (e.g. SOA, APIs, open data, micro services), information management and data analytics, and corporate applications
  • Proven industry experience in designing and implementing Infrastructure, Cloud services, Networks, Backups and End User Computing including M365
  • Demonstrated ability to stay informed on industry and technology trends and assess their relevance to business needs
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven ability to build effective relationships with senior business and technology leaders
  • Skilled in facilitating workshops and architectural discussions with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience developing and maintaining architecture standards, guidelines, and guardrails
  • Excellent strategic thinker that can interpret business strategy and priorities, and can deliver sound, pragmatic architectural advice, recommendations and roadmaps to enable business strategy execution
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage effective relationships with senior business and technology leaders
  • Experience in the insurance and/or health and wellbeing industry would be great, particularly with: Data, including data modelling, governance, and analytics platforms; Cloud-native services and platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP); Business Intelligence software platforms (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI); Customer Relationship Management and Enterprise Resource planning platforms (e.g. Salesforce, SAP, Dynamics); Identity platforms (e.g. Auth0, Microsoft Entra); Application security, OAuth, and multi-factor authentication; Middleware and integration approaches with various web services and message exchanges; Knowledge of financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting and risk management; Experience working within in ASX listed business.
