About the role

  • Lead and inspire a team of actuaries responsible for reserving work and pricing analyses for Professional Lines within the Wholesale & Specialty division
  • Ensure the Actuarial team is highly skilled and well-versed in the products they support
  • Support the development of innovative underwriting strategies and play a vital role in managing profitability across the portfolio
  • Foster a strong partnership with Claims leadership to ensure seamless sharing of insights across teams
  • Build close relationships with key stakeholders (Underwriting, Finance, etc.) to foster mutual understanding of how business developments impact actuarial drivers, and vice-versa
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and maintain a strong network within the actuarial profession and insurance market
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Professional Lines within the Markel actuarial department
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance actuarial support to the business
  • Deliver actuarial results and insights to non-actuaries in a clear and concise manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in a related field required
  • Credentialled Actuary belonging to a globally recognized Actuarial Society required
  • Extensive experience in senior actuarial roles, specifically within Professional Lines and team management
  • Proficiency in both Pricing and Reserving
  • Ability to roll out new initiatives, proactively engage and negotiate with senior actuarial stakeholders, challenge existing processes, and resolve conflicts
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to develop and present clear and concise recommendations
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence others and drive projects to conclusion while meeting critical deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to continuously learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Timeliness and attention to detail
  • Strong technical and analytical actuarial skills
  • US Work Authorization required
