About the role
- Understand requirements and processes for many law firm practices and types of cases including but not limited to VAWA, T-Visa, U-visa, I-589, EOIR 42-B, and Consular Processing cases.
- Evaluate and handle responses to client escalations and help identify how to move the case forward or improve the process.
- Process immigration court-related non-electronic filings to U.S. Immigration Courts across the country.
- Under the supervision of an attorney, help prepare legal training, templates, or scripts for operational teams.
- Partner with operational teams to provide strategic insight and additional thoughts on the case process and legal workflows that improve the process.
- Upon request and where appropriate, help handle overflow attorney tasks such as reviewing intake notes.
- Perform legal and factual research at the request of an attorney.
- Help develop and implement efficient workflows for filings, ensuring compliance with legal standards and deadlines.
- Analyze and prepare case documents.
- Review FBI background check requests, review state police clearance records and review FOIA records.
- Monitor case deadlines and filing requirements to ensure compliance with court rules, USCIS regulations, and firm policies.
- Communicate with clients to gather documentation, provide status updates, and clarify case requirements under attorney supervision.
- Organize supporting evidence including affidavits, records, and supporting documentation for case filings.
- Draft petitions, legal forms, correspondence, and supporting documentation for attorney review.
- Review intake, initial research and interview notes to develop legal strategies for attorney review
- Review and adjust case flow in response to immigration judges’ orders
- Conduct thorough reviews of full court case files prior to preparing our clients for court appearances
- Prepare clients for individual hearings, ensuring they understand their case and what to expect
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent experience
- 3-6+ year relevant paralegal/legal support experience with demonstrated ability to manage complex case workflows, coordinate across functions, and resolve escalations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and related legal/ops tools (e.g., Dropbox, SharePoint, CRM).
- Possesses excellent English interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Enhances efficiency, quality, and on-time filings; helps reduce errors/risks through improved workflows and escalation handling.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes/workflows, prepare training/templates, and collaborate with operations.
- Manages moderately complex casework across multiple immigration categories; coordinates with attorneys and operations to maintain workflow continuity and compliance.
