About the role
- Provide remote Portuguese↔English interpretation, primarily over-the-phone (OPI).
- Bridge communication gaps and provide reliable, unbiased, and empathetic interpretation.
- Deliver courteous, accurate, and professional interpretation services.
- Interpret medical terminology and healthcare-related conversations as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA-compliant communication.
- Complete onboarding assessments, live evaluations, background checks, and sign contracting paperwork.
- Submit required documentation (resume, certifications, English proficiency PDF).
Requirements
- Fluency in English and Portuguese.
- A dedication to delivering courteous, accurate, and professional interpretation services.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Prior experience as Over-the-Phone Interpreter (OPI) (preferred, not required).
- Achieve a “technical proficiency” rating (level 3 or higher on the ILR scale) on English Proficiency Test.
- Successfully pass a live mock interpretation evaluation.
- Pass a Medical Terminology Assessment covering medical terms, anatomy, and physiology.
- Pass background check and security screening.
- Sign an Independent Contractor Agreement and confidentiality commitment (including HIPAA compliance).
- Submit resume and any relevant certifications (PDF certificates requested, not screenshots).
- Have a dedicated home office space to work remotely.
- Have a reliable high-speed internet connection.
- Have noise-canceling headphones for clear communication.
