About the role
- Design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities (12kV to 500kV)
- Use knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to develop electrical designs
- Create Relay One Line, Three Line AC Schematics, DC Protection Schematics, Panel Layouts and Wiring Designs
- Develop bills of materials based on design criteria and perform quality control checks on wiring design
- Support complete project lifecycle from scoping to final design, implementation, and construction support
- Apply National Electrical Safety Code and client standards to designs
- Coordinate with designers/drafters to create required drawings and work with other disciplines (telecom, civil, structural)
- Interface with local and nationwide utility clients and provide field support and commissioning as needed
- Work as part of a design team of engineers, designers, and CAD technicians
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or related degree
- 4+ years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience (Senior-level)
- 8+ years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience (Lead-level)
- Experience in executing substation protection and control projects
- Ability to read and design one-line, three-line, AC/DC schematic drawings and wiring design
- Knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits
- High level of computer competency; experience with CAD tools
- Strong analytical skills and proven problem solving
- Excellent communication skills; ability to interact with internal team and clients
- Willingness to travel to customer sites and in office as needed (10% to 20%)
- US Citizen and able to pass a DOE Background (preferred)
- Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification (preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)
- Master’s degree in related field (preferred)
- Field testing/commissioning experience (preferred)
- Experience performing quality control checks on design projects (preferred)
