About the role
- Responsible for the engineering and management needs of an engineering department with 40+ engineers in multiple locations
- Maintain a properly staffed and trained organization that can competently service the organization’s mechanical engineering and design needs
- Lead a team of engineering professionals to see and meet overall project objectives and integrate various engineering disciplines in a multi-project environment
- Oversee Propulsion Plant Design, Auxiliary System Design, Fluid System Analysis, and Machinery/Mechanical Design efforts
- Produce manhour estimates for tasking along with a valid Basis of Estimates
- Interact with customers on both technical and programmatic issues
- Motivate, mentor, and instruct inexperienced staff and maintain departmental staffing
- Ensure accurate products delivered on time and within budget
- Attend meetings at local Leidos Gibbs & Cox offices as needed
Requirements
- Candidate must be local to a Leidos Gibbs & Cox office to attend meetings as needed (Arlington VA, Philadelphia PA, New York NY, New Orleans LA, Newport News VA, Houston TX)
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical/marine design and engineering
- At least 3 years of this experience in a management role
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an Engineering field
- Professional Engineering license in Mechanical Engineering
- Must be a United States citizen with the ability to obtain Secret Clearance
- Experience in Propulsion Plant Design, Auxiliary System Design, Fluid System Analysis, and Machinery/Mechanical Design
- Ability to produce manhour estimates with a valid Basis of Estimates
- Experience attracting, hiring, and maintaining qualified staff
- Ability to motivate and lead a disciplined engineering team
- Personal skills to successfully interact with customers on both technical and programmatic issues
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Solid organizational and time management abilities
- Technical and managerial problem solving skills with ability to identify issues and initiate corrective action
- Enthusiastic and willing to instruct inexperienced staff
- Proven collaborator with superiors, peers, staff, and design teams
- Experience at a U.S. Navy-oriented service’s company is desired
