About the role
- Perform Physical Electrical, Protection and Control, SCADA Systems, Station Communications and Station Automation design on small to medium sized utility substation engineering projects with medium complexity
- Perform medium to advanced complexity engineering calculations to support engineering design
- Read and design substation physical drawings such as operation one-line drawings, electrical plan and section drawings, foundation layouts, grounding layouts and details, conduit layouts and details
- Assist senior engineers with engineering studies
- Prepare project deliverables including engineered drawings, technical reports, project-related correspondence and miscellaneous project documentation
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and assess impacts of design changes on other disciplines
- Perform Quality Control reviews on smaller projects
- Prepare portions of smaller proposals and provide drawing counts and manhour estimates for small to medium sized projects
- Assist the team with development of processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency
- Maintain accurate records and files and a high level of organization
- Develop and provide moderate complexity technical presentations for training and staff development
- Assist project engineer with project-related technical support to field personnel during construction
- Support Leidos’ goals and represent the company positively and professionally
Requirements
- B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (Electrical preferred)
- 2+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design with a B.S. degree OR 1+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design with a M.S. degree
- Familiarity with electric infrastructure and the theories and principles involved in substation engineering
- Experience with engineering programs and software (including SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software)
- Competency in applying basic theories and principals involved in substation engineering
- Experience with Engineering, Procurement & Construction turnkey projects for electric utilities is strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise data management system (preferred)
- Engineer In Training (EIT) (preferred)
- Understanding of the function and application of major substation electrical and control house equipment
- Understanding of the importance of quality and quality control in power/consulting industry
- Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations
