About the role

  • Perform Physical Electrical, Protection and Control, SCADA Systems, Station Communications and Station Automation design on small to medium sized utility substation engineering projects with medium complexity
  • Perform medium to advanced complexity engineering calculations to support engineering design
  • Read and design substation physical drawings such as operation one-line drawings, electrical plan and section drawings, foundation layouts, grounding layouts and details, conduit layouts and details
  • Assist senior engineers with engineering studies
  • Prepare project deliverables including engineered drawings, technical reports, project-related correspondence and miscellaneous project documentation
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and assess impacts of design changes on other disciplines
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on smaller projects
  • Prepare portions of smaller proposals and provide drawing counts and manhour estimates for small to medium sized projects
  • Assist the team with development of processes and procedures to improve project execution efficiency
  • Maintain accurate records and files and a high level of organization
  • Develop and provide moderate complexity technical presentations for training and staff development
  • Assist project engineer with project-related technical support to field personnel during construction
  • Support Leidos’ goals and represent the company positively and professionally

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (Electrical preferred)
  • 2+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design with a B.S. degree OR 1+ years of prior relevant experience in utility substation design with a M.S. degree
  • Familiarity with electric infrastructure and the theories and principles involved in substation engineering
  • Experience with engineering programs and software (including SKM, ASPEN, ETAP, CDEGS, or vendor software)
  • Competency in applying basic theories and principals involved in substation engineering
  • Experience with Engineering, Procurement & Construction turnkey projects for electric utilities is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise data management system (preferred)
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) (preferred)
  • Understanding of the function and application of major substation electrical and control house equipment
  • Understanding of the importance of quality and quality control in power/consulting industry
  • Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations
  • Candidates must be located in the United States
