About the role

  • Handle on-demand Malayalam-English telephone interpreting sessions and render meaning verbally.
  • Break communication barriers across industries including Healthcare, 911, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, Law Enforcement, Court, and General Business.
  • Process information quickly and concisely and recognize sensitive cultural differences.
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to interpretation protocol; avoid omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and enunciation.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and follow client instructions and protocols.
  • Remain calm during emotional or emergency calls and remain on calls as required.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours and meet company service standards.
  • Understand protocol and terminology for various industries and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Malayalam and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective on sensitive calls.
  • Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
  • Must be able to adapt to LanguageLine Solutions (LLS) technology enhancements.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; applicants must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write the requested languages - highly preferred.
  • Candidates currently employed by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated LLS business may not be eligible.
  • Based on location, post-offer background check and/or drug screen may be required.
  • Technical requirements: dedicated personal device for business (desktop/laptop/tablet/smartphone) with Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS or Android; restricted brands: Kaspersky, Huawei.
  • High speed Internet: download >= 5 Mbps, upload >= 3 Mbps, Ping <= 300 ms, Jitter <= 30 ms.
  • Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
  • Physical requirements: operate keyboard and mouse, remain stationary majority of workday, sufficient manual dexterity to type or write, able to lift up to 26 lbs.
