About the role
- Applies mechanical engineering principles to design, develop, and support L3Harris FOS product lines during new product design, development, and legacy product production
- Interacts with a multidisciplinary design team and works within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications
- Supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards
- Leads mechanical design efforts for assigned programs, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, internal standards, and industry specifications
- Develops and matures mechanical designs from concept through qualification and production release using mechanical engineering knowledge and established design practices
- Generates and maintains engineering drawings, models, and technical documentation in accordance with configuration management requirements
- Creates, revises, and interprets engineering drawings, specifications, compliance matrices, and related documentation in accordance with company, customer, and industry standards
- Defines and supports qualification and environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock), including test planning and reporting
- Performs and/or collaborates with engineering analysts to execute finite element analysis (FEA) and/or other analytical assessments
- Participates in failure investigations related to design, production builds, and fielded products to find root cause and implement corrective actions
- Prepares and presents materials for internal and customer design reviews
- Supports active production efforts, including tooling and test fixture design, product troubleshooting, drawing and document updates, process control improvements, and design enhancements
- Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives focused on improving efficiency, product quality, reliability, and cost
- Acts as a mentor and coach for day-to-day technical guidance to foster a culture of collaboration
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or other related Engineering field
- Minimum 6 years of prior relevant work experience
- Graduate degree and a minimum of 4 years prior relevant work
- In lieu of a degree, minimum 10 years of prior related experience
- Experience with CAD (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and drawing standards
- Experience with design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA)
- Must be able to obtain a US Security Clearance
