About the role
- You will be a part of our Global Strategy group, working closely with business units to define and drive Johnson Controls’ long-term vision for controls and digital technologies.
- Report to the Vice President – Enterprise Strategy and serve as a key leader impacting both organic and inorganic growth strategies in the Americas.
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives that establish Johnson Controls as a preferred partner and innovator in controls and digital solutions for smart buildings.
- Lead strategic market analysis, competitive intelligence, and whitespace identification specific to the controls and digital ecosystem, including building automation, IoT, cloud, AI/ML, cybersecurity, and data-driven technologies.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of business opportunities by cultivating relationships with industry leaders, technology innovators, partners, and key stakeholders in the controls and digital space.
- Initiate and manage early-stage strategic dialogues, build actionable sector theses, and position Johnson Controls as a trusted technology partner for digital transformation.
- Leverage data-driven market research to uncover emerging trends and adjacencies that align with the company’s objectives in controls and digital, including digital twins, predictive analytics, remote monitoring, and integrated smart solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to validate growth initiatives, support transaction execution (including M&A and strategic partnerships), and contribute to building new lines of business within the controls/digital vertical.
- Support strategic partnership and M&A initiatives that complement organic growth, expanding Johnson Controls’ reach, capabilities, and technology offerings in controls and digital.
- Directly inform executive decision-making, shaping the future of Johnson Controls’ controls and digital business strategy.
- Develop compelling business cases and presentations that communicate complex digital strategies and market opportunities.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders, including senior executives, clients, technology partners, and investors in the controls and digital market.
- Drive collaboration and alignment across cross-functional teams (sales, product, engineering, operations, marketing), ensuring the execution of strategic initiatives.
- Stay current on industry developments by analyzing market research, segmenting customer opportunities, and identifying growth pathways and operational improvements.
- Employ effective communication skills across presentations, reports, and data visualizations, ensuring clarity on recommendations for new digital initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop talent focused on advancing enterprise strategy within the controls/digital market.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in market trend analysis, industry research, and competitive landscape evaluation relevant to controls and digital technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Proven experience developing investment theses, business cases, and executive presentations for new business lines or strategic partnerships.
- Experience leading market assessments—including primary/secondary market research, customer segmentation, and data-driven opportunity analysis.
- Strong project management skills with ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and departments.
- A track record of cultivating confidential, high-impact relationships with key external and internal stakeholders.
- Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from an accredited college, preferred in a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business and strategic development, ideally with direct experience in controls, digital technologies, smart building solutions, enterprise software, or relevant management consulting, P&L leadership, or strategic roles supporting M&A transactions.
