About the role
- Develop and refine a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with company goals, revenue targets, and margin expectations.
- Analyze market trends, demographics, and competitor activity to identify areas of opportunity and risk within the company’s geographic footprint.
- Build and manage the business development budget, monitor ROI, and recommend adjustments to maximize effectiveness.
- Maintain a current, organized view of J2’s client base, prospects, and competitors across acute healthcare, medical, commercial/industrial, and faith-based sectors.
- Proactively source and qualify new opportunities through networking, referrals, research, and outbound outreach utilizing multiple channels.
- Develop and maintain a structured opportunity pipeline (by sector, account, and stage) to support accurate forecasting and reporting.
- Represent J2 Solutions at industry events, conferences, association meetings, and civic organizations to expand visibility and relationships.
- Plan and execute client appreciation events, sponsorships, and community engagement activities with clear desired outcomes and documented ROI.
- Lead multi-channel outreach (phone, email, LinkedIn, in-person meetings, events) to secure discovery meetings and convert them into qualified opportunities.
- Oversee J2’s external marketing presence, including website content updates, social media, PR, and participation in industry conferences.
- Develop compelling presentations, proposals, and other materials to support client meetings, shortlists, and presentations, working with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
- Collaborate with HR to support talent-recruitment marketing and employer brand initiatives.
- Strengthen relationships with existing clients, healthcare systems, medical practices, church leaders, developers, architects, and key referral partners to drive repeat and negotiated work.
- Participate in early-stage client meetings to assess fit, clarify needs, and coordinate handoff to internal project and preconstruction teams.
- Act as an internal customer advocate, ensuring that client feedback informs strategy, preconstruction, operations, and project delivery improvements.
- Select, implement, and maintain CRM tools to track accounts, contacts, activities, and opportunities.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for business development activity and results, providing regular reports to leadership.
- Maintain a business development calendar of events, campaigns, and major pursuits and ensure preparation and follow-through for each.
- Serve as the initial owner of business development activities and, as growth demands, help define, hire, and lead additional sales/business development staff.
- Provide coaching, structure, and accountability for best-practice business development activities across the team and broader organization.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Preconstruction, Operations, and HR to ensure alignment between pursuit strategy, operational capacity, and talent needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Five or more years of proven business-to-business sales or business development experience, preferably in construction, real estate, healthcare, or related professional services.
- Demonstrated success building and managing a relationship-based sales pipeline and moving opportunities from early engagement through award.
- Demonstrated success with ongoing digital media campaigns utilizing CRM software.
- Strong leadership aptitude, with prior team lead/management experience preferred.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and non-technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and common productivity tools; ability to create professional marketing materials, presentations, and RFP responses (independently and by coordinating with outside vendors).
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities, manage multiple pursuits and events, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- High emotional intelligence, professional presence, and the ability to build trust with executives, entrepreneurs, board(s), community leaders.
- Experience leveraging multiple social media platforms, to drive BD initiatives, expand market reach, engagement, and brand visibility.
