About the role
- The Associate Director of Behavioral Health serves as the behavioral health leader for a defined market or sub-region, providing direct supervision of care team Managers while supporting the strategic initiatives surrounding integrated & holistic care.
- This role focuses on day-to-day clinical operations, clinician/care team member development and performance management, and ensuring quality care delivery within value-based care frameworks.
- Operationalize Regional Medical Director (RMD) strategy for region (translating strategy to action for pod clinicians/care team members)
- Provide closed-loop feedback with RMD to adjust strategy based on operational challenges
- Work with RMD, Associate Medical Director, Health Services Director (HSD), and General Manager (GM) to maintain relationships with key leadership
- Support daily huddles, clinical team meetings, and Interdisciplinary Team Meetings to foster clinical discussions and assist Managers in mitigating complex clinical scenarios
- Provide real-time clinical guidance and decision-making support
- Oversee clinical protocols implementation and adherence
- Ensure appropriate clinical documentation and coding practices
- Monitor compliance with clinical quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Monitor Manager & care team member productivity, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction scores
- Ensure adherence to clinical excellence and documentation standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical model enhancements
- Support continuing education programs and new process implementation
- Work with RMD, AMD, HSD, and GM on regional initiatives and change management strategies
- Support smooth regional operations through stakeholder alignment
- Facilitate external feedback integration into operational improvements
- Provide direct supervision and performance management for Behavioral Health Managers
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and goal setting with direct reports
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new provider/care team member staff
- Monitor capacity/utilization levels and deployment across the region
- Facilitate Behavioral Health Grand Rounds and other peer learning opportunities and case-based discussions
- Provide coaching on difficult clinical cases and complex family situations
- Support provider wellbeing and engagement initiatives
- Attend Health Plan Joint Operating Committee (JOC) meetings as requested by RMD (mainly for the stable smaller plans)
- Participate in Clinical Workstream Meetings
- Attend Health Plan Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings at the direction of the Regional Medical Director
- Work with RMD to prepare for larger Health Plan meetings
- Support value-based care contract performance and reporting
- Collaborate with Network Engagement team to build strong community relationships.
- Build and maintain relationships with stable external provider partners
- Represent the organization at external clinical meetings and events
- Participate in community health initiatives and partnerships
- Support referral relationship development and maintenance
- Collaborate with external clinical specialists and subspecialists
- Support development of clinical affiliations and partnerships
- Engage in community outreach and education initiatives
Requirements
- Must hold independent licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LMHC) in Texas or Missouri with eligibility to be cross-licensed in other states.
- 10+ years in the Behavioral Health field
- Minimum 5-7+ years of people management experience
- Experience managing care managers and/or social services programs
- Minimum 3-5 years prior experience managing independently licensed therapists
- Passion for patient-centric healthcare and innovative clinical models that serve patient needs
- Entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit; comfortable with and excited by working at a high-growth company
- Proven clinical background in risk-bearing models or highly aligned risk-sharing payer-provider care models highly desired
- Leads with a demonstrated understanding of value-based care/managed care environments
- Extensive clinical expertise and experience building and managing high-performing clinical teams
