About the role
- Lead the development of a forward-looking, proactive government affairs strategy at the federal and state levels that is aligned with company goals and mission.
- Work alongside the Government Affairs Associate to identify and assess emerging policy risks and opportunities across markets, prioritizing issues that affect business growth and care delivery for medically complex children.
- Collaborate with the Government Affairs Associate to create regulatory interpretations, identify legislative intent, and generate advocacy positioning for the Government Affairs team, external consultants, and Imagine Pediatrics’ Patient and Family Advocacy team.
- Aid in strategic planning efforts alongside the Chief Innovation and Administrative Officer.
- Represent Imagine Pediatrics in the Coalition of Healthcare Innovation and its related activities.
- Prepare and deliver quarterly briefings, supported by the Government Affairs Associate, to executive leadership, summarizing major federal and state developments, strategic risks, and opportunities.
- Assist in ensuring the Government Affairs team is situated as a source of subject-matter expertise for internal teams, helping shape organizational strategy in response to the policy environment.
- Acquaint policymakers and elected officials with Imagine Pediatrics’ services and patient population and advocate for legislation, policies, and benefits that further Imagine Pediatrics’ mission and underpin the families that we serve.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred (MPP, MPH, MHA, MBA/MPA with a health focus, JD, or related).
- 7-14 years in a professional environment; experience in government affairs, government, or policy, and healthcare policy. Medicaid experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in federal or state advocacy, including direct stakeholder engagement, coalition work, and/or legislative/regulatory strategy or lobbying.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience managing consultants, lobbyists, or external government affairs partners, including scoping deliverables, tracking performance, and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
- Strong understanding of CMS, state Medicaid agencies, and the policymaking lifecycle, especially how regulatory changes and state plan/waiver modifications move from concept to implementation.
- Experience collaborating with legal counsel, regulatory teams, or compliance on policy interpretation.
- Comfortability working in a dynamic startup environment with shifting timelines, priorities, and information flow.
