About the role

  • Deliver designs, drawings, information, calculations and enhancements that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving
  • Make sure assets are safe, working and compliant
  • Develop own solutions
  • Provide engineering advice for various stakeholders
  • Provide Civil engineering input to support programmes in line with the Mayor’s Transport Strategy
  • Examine engineering problems and develop viable solutions

Requirements

  • Preferably be a Chartered member or working towards chartership of the ICE or other recognised institution
  • At Incorporated level or equivalent minimum
  • Knowledge of legislation, Technical standards and Industry best practice related to Civil Engineering
  • Health, Safety and Environmental considerations applicable to Civil Engineering (including CDM)
  • Experience in some of the following areas/stages: conception, specification, design, construction, testing, commissioning, bringing into use, operation or disposal of assets
  • Understanding of the interfaces with and integration between own discipline / functional specialisms and the wider transport system
  • Understanding of Risk management and Value engineering
  • Understanding of the challenges of introducing new assets or changes in practice into the transport system and necessary trade-off between cost, time and quality
  • Ability to undertake design, construction, maintenance and/or assurance of some Civil Engineering systems and assets under supervision
  • Ability to assess the condition of some Civil Engineering assets under supervision
  • Ability to maintain and undertake asset management of some Civil Engineering assets including whole life consideration of the assets
  • Ability to manage small engineering teams and/or apply engineering principles to resolve low complexity technical challenges
  • Ability to apply professional engineering judgement to support low risk /complexity projects or operational activities
  • Ability to build relationships with and influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels within and outside of the organisation.
