About the role

  • Design scalable, secure, and highly available architectures using Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VM.
  • Define database standards, reference architectures, and best practices.
  • Architect HA/DR solutions using Failover Groups, Active Geo-replication, Zone Redundancy, and backup strategies.
  • Lead performance engineering, capacity planning, and scalability strategies.
  • Design and enforce database security (Azure AD, TDE, Always Encrypted, Auditing, Defender for SQL).
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Lead database migration and modernization initiatives to Azure.
  • Drive automation and DevOps using PowerShell, Azure Automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and lead root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Optimize Azure SQL costs using right-sizing, elastic pools, and reserved capacity.
  • Act as SME and escalation point, mentoring DBAs and guiding development teams.
  • Adopt AI tools /Agents/third party tools for DB operations
  • Cross team collaboration, SOP documentation

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in SQL Server / Database Administration, including architecture responsibilities.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, Hyperscale.
  • Deep knowledge of HA/DR, performance tuning, and security.
  • Experience with Azure networking (Private Endpoints, VNets).
  • Deep understanding of SQL performance tuning
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, enterprise-scale systems.
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (PowerShell /Python preferred).
  • Knowledge on AI tools/Agents is plus.
  • Experience handling tools such as Redgate, Datadog etc.
