As an Engineering Manager you’ll balance technical oversight and people management with strategic team leadership, to ensure best practices around software development.
You will be responsible for the wellbeing and ongoing professional development of the engineers within your team.
You will be the primary point of contact for them to come to with any difficulties that they are facing.
You should have thorough knowledge of the challenges of working in engineering, delivering projects to clients and of global remote working.
Collaborate with delivery and commercial teams to ensure the smooth running of the squad.
Anticipate and identify problems as they arise, addressing them yourself, or escalating them to the relevant discipline lead when necessary.
Consistently gather actionable feedback and deliver this to your reports in a constructive manner.
Encourage open dialogue and accountability amongst the squad.
Manage, coach and mentor your reports, supporting their development and career progression.
Represent your engineering team in meta-level discussions such as team structure, wellbeing, and professional development.
Lead a cross-functional squad, setting clear goals and creating a culture of accountability.
Facilitate ceremonies such as retrospectives and squad check-ins.
Collaborate with other engineering managers and discipline leads to ensure consistency in practices and alignment of the squads.
Requirements
Broad understanding of technologies used by Human Made, e.g. WordPress, React, APIs, software architecture etc.
Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Squad Leader in an agency environment.
Excellent communication, team building and organisational skills.
Experienced and capable of identifying an individual’s areas for improvement.
Experience with gathering constructive feedback and delivering it to team members.
Confident in addressing interpersonal issues.
Experienced in a remote working environment.
