About the role
- Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with CMM’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Programs and the BC Mines Act
- Develop an engaged, motivated, and effective operating team through leadership, dialogue, and coaching
- Ensure that all direct employees are competent and perform their job functions safely and efficiently
- Ensures quality Safety Meetings, Flash Reports, SLAMs, and Accident/Incident reports are completed in a timely fashion
- Completes performance evaluations on direct reports and provide regular feedback
- Coordinate unscheduled maintenance repairs for the drill and blast equipment fleet to optimize production and equipment availability
- Promotes consistency between shifts in all aspects of the department (safety, housekeeping, training, and workforce utilization)
- Assists in the development of training programs for drilling, blasting, and utility related work
- Ensure the quality of daily tasks surrounding pattern preparation, explosives loading and blasting, drilling and cable work are completed safely and efficiently
- Plan and coordinate efficient and timely cable layouts, re-routes and equipment moves with safety as the top priority
- Participate in critical control verifications to ensure safety compliance and effectiveness
- Support and lead the implementation of operational efficiency improvement projects within the Drill & Blast department
- Track daily and weekly departmental KPI’s and facilitate operational changes to maintain budgeted drilled and blasted inventory
- Supervises external contractors to ensure alignment on operational and safety expectations
- Performs other responsibilities as required or as assigned by the department head.
Requirements
- Current BC Shiftboss Certification with required first aid
- Current BC Surface Blaster Certification or the ability to obtain
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a supervisory role
- Proficient user of computer-based training, investigation tools (Intelex), and procurement programs (SAP)
- Proficient user of computer systems including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
- Possess a valid Class 5/7N British Columbia driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.
